Causes We Care About

Affordable and Safe Housing for All

A good realtor is not only knowledgeable about the communities they serve, they are active members in those communities. At Royal LePage, this culture of giving back extends across the country through the efforts of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation as well as the hundreds of other organizations our realtors support through volunteering as well as through commission donation. Here are 3 causes near and dear to our team.

Royal LePage Shelter Foundation

Since its founding in 1998, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation has proudly grown to become the largest public foundation in Canada dedicated exclusively to funding women’s shelters and domestic violence prevention. Every dollar raised goes directly to helping the more than 50,000 women and children who are served each year by the shelters and support programs, with over $46 million raised in its 26-year history.

In 2023, the Shelter Foundation raised $4.9 million and currently supports 200 local women’s shelters and national partners. To learn more or to make a donation, visit the Foundation's website here.

Wake The Giant Music Festival and Cultural Awareness Project

Wake the Giant is a cultural awareness project in Thunder Bay, Ontario that identifies inclusive spaces throughout the city, while committing businesses and organizations to share education and resources with employees, staff and the community at large, with a goal to be more welcoming to Indigenous youth.

Founded in 2019, Wake the Giant has now organized 3 music festivals, with all proceeds going to the Dennis Franklin Cromarty (DFC) High School for Indigenous students in Thunder Bay. DFC is administered by the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, which serves 24 Indigenous communities in remote areas of Northwestern Ontario.

In February 2023, Wake the Giant launched its Indigenous Culture and Inclusivity Training program, which builds upon its past efforts to work with local businesses to create a more inclusive Thunder Bay for all. For more information or to make a donation, visit Wake the Giant's website here.

London Affordable Housing Foundation

Affordable housing is a key issue gaining prominence across our country. In recent years, the steep rise in home prices has resulted in higher rents and affordability challenges for Canadian renters and first-time home buyers. There are many non-profit initiatives across the country that aim to enhance affordable housing, with one notable project relating to the re-development of the Old Victoria hospital in London, Ontario.

Vision SoHo will see the old Victoria Hospital in London transformed into over 650 units. This housing facility will have a mix of both ‘market rate’ tenants and up to 60% of affordable housing units. The project broke ground in October 2022 and is expected to be completed by 2024.
